To volunteer for MD SART's Evacuation & Sheltering Committee, please complete and submit the form below.

Committee Mission: Determines evacuation procedures and identifies with counties facilities that can be used for sheltering and methods of animal transportation.

Methods

  1. Develop list of animal transport

  2. Establish dialog with MD Dept of Transportation about animal transport and try to work out system with them where DOT owned vehicles can be used for animal transport.

  3. Develop database of animal shelters in each county preferably with or close to human shelters

  4. If permanent shelters are not available determine where temporary shelters can be opened.

  5. Determine health requirements for shelters

  6. Develop list of supplies needed for shelters and how to obtain them

  7. Develop standard MOU for obtaining shelter supplies

  8. Determine forms to be used in shelters and for what purpose

  9. Determine protocols for opening and closing shelters

  10. Determine procedures for animals that cannot be returned to their owner

  11. Determine how sick animals will be handled at shelters
